MOTOR ACCIDENTS

AMBULANCE CLASSIFICATION Amazement at the number of motor accidents occurring.in. "Wellington was expressed by\ members of the Free Ambulance committee this week, when, it was decided that the board should be supplied with, the proportion of motor accidents attended by the ambulance service, and that in future a monthly return should be made showing the number of motor accidents attended. The • return was first asked for by Mr. D. M'K'enzie (Mayor of Petone). Mr. M. Marks: "There are none at Petone; you make them go too 'slow." (Laughter.) Mr. C. M. Luke described the number of motoring accidents as "perfectly alarming. 1' He- said that when he visited the 'Hospital on Christinas Day nearly all the first thirty beds he inquired at contained patients suffering from motoring accidents. The motoring accidents to-day could not be attended to without the ambulance servieo at present ! in operation. Mr. C. H. Chapman: "Jtb looks as though the Hospital Board will have to have a week-end ward for motor accidents." ' Mr. Luke: "Wo practically have that already." Mr. Marks pointed out that the accidents were bad in all cities. The board decided that in future accidents attended by the ambulance should be classified.
