CONFERENCE A "FLOP"
PACT A "PIOUS FKATJD"
IMPATIENT AMERICANS United Press Association— Bi Electrle Teleerapb- Copydent. (Received 28th March, 11.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, 27th March. Representative Britten, chairman of the House Naval Committee, described the proposed consultative pact as silly and ridiculous. "The Conference," he said, "is a 'flop.' The American delegates should recognise it and come home." The Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (Senator Borah) on Thursday referred to the pact as a pious fraud which under the exigencies of the hour would be rejected. Senator Borah slated as regards the recent Administration statements about a consultative pact in London as indicating a reversal of policy in the first expression upon the subject, that there was a time since f the Conference began when President Hoover believed that even the most innocuous type of consultative agreement would be construed to imply a military guarantee in some form.
