V.C.'S HALF-CROWN

On 'returning from the -Prince of Wales' historic dinner, Alfred Wilkinson, V.C., of Leigh, England, found that his' trade union, the Leigh Operative Spinners' Association, had deducted 2s Gd from his unemployed pay for the day lost in visiting London. This despite the fact that he had been unemployed for 21 weeks. "When paying out we have to be careful," said ono of the Leigh branch officials in referring to the incident. "If I had not deducted this 2s 6d I might have been pulled up by the union. If a mistake has been made tho branch committee will go into the matter and have it remedied. If they cannot come to a decision on an important inafrter, the rule is to refer it to the full executive committee." .
