BIG GAME FISHING
A correspondent writes to the "Evening Post" that Mil.' P. A. M'Hardy's deep-sea, fishing party, consisting of Messrs. J. G. Speedy, of Auckland, F. C. Jacobs, of Johnsonville, and E. A. Bennett and B. J. ' Jacobs, of Palmerston North (Mr. M Hardy himself was prevented'from joining in), left Tauranga on 20th February aiid had excellent weather, being able to [ish on all save one of the nine days. Fish in the early stages were not very plentiful, but towards the end there was a great improvement. The bag consisted of five swordfish and one inako shark. Mr Speedy secured a swordfish oi .3021b, Mr. F. C. Jacobs one o? 302!/ 2 lb and another 3741b, Mr. B. J. Jacobs a swordfish of 324%1b and a iriako shark of 3351b, and Mr. Bennett a swordfish of 2081b. Iwo fish were hooked at tile same time by Mr. ]? and Mr. B. Jacobs, and both were successfully landed, Mr. F. Jacobs's hsh m about forty minutes, and- the other m double that time. The record lnako for the season is held by Mr. B. E. Preston, of Tauranga, the weight being Sbllb; -U"s fish was caught at Mayor Island.
