INFANTILE PARALYSIS
EPIDEMIC IN SOLOMONS
SYDNEY, 6th February/
Dr. Martin, late Government Medical Officer in the Solomon Islands, states that lack of serum resulted^in the death of approximately 250 native* from infantile paralysis during thY recent epidemic. With proper supplies' this number might have been reduced to under 50, and the amount of disablement lessened proportionately. -
Dr. Martin pointed out the fact that steamers camo to Sydney from the port of Vanokoro without adequate medical supervision. Persons untouched by\the disease might bo carriers of the germs. Rigid inspection was necessary. .".'"■■:'■■
