Tho weather is gloomy and a strong cold wind from the south is hinting of winter. Yesterday wo had the heaviest snowfall for a long time. , I'll ere are, no more indications of the ice going than a month ago. , Wo cannot helping comparing the conditions with tho years Amundsen came. His ship got through tho pack in five days. The ice went out the first year on 13th January, and the second time between 19th and 30th January. Heavy ice may come in cycles. .Perhaps we are rin tho middle of a bad pack.
