THE V.M.C.A.
The Christinas and New Year holiday period was a busy one for the local Young Men's Christian Association. Under the leadership of Mr. H. J. Steptoe a most successful boys' eump has just concluded at Trentham. Despite the inclement weather, 4S boys enrolled for a three weeks' course. The officials are busy preparing for the coming season's activities. The Optimists' Club, a young business men's weekly luncheon club of 70 members, resumes on Thursday, 20th February, and the recently-organised Literary and Debating Society has arranged its opening banquet on Wednesday, sth March. At the Donbank Hostel—which serves nearly 100 young Now Zealanders, 75 per cent, of whom are attached to the Public Service—an early start has been made. The new activities committee, with Mr. G-. W. Oliver re-elected chairman, already has a fine programme of lectures arranged. The popular physical director, Mr. J. A. Duffy, is to be found each evening at the Willis street building putting the final touches to the exceleut equipment he has available. 'Tuesday, 11th February, is the reopening date of the gymnasium.
