Ie the natch between Manawatu and M.C.C. Manawatu was dismissed in the first innings, for 67. M.C.C. have lost seven wickets for 306. Ongley, senr. (captain) and Cutler were the only local players to make a stand. They put on 33 for the ninth wicket. M.C.C. opened briskly, but when 30 was reached Gallachan's bowling was troublesome. Benson at twenty almost returned a ball to the bowler, while Allom was not at all set.. Benson continued to add shots all round the wicket, mostly strong pulls to leg. At 42 Allom was clean bowled by an off-break. Benson was caught behind the stumps with only two added. Nichols contributed only one when Gallachan beat him. Duleepslnhji delighted the crowd I with splendid batting and nice on drives. His partnership with Worthington was spectacular and yielded a century. At 145 Duleepsinhji hit M'Viear to Cutler at long on, and was splendidly caught. His 66 included one six and 'six fours. Turnbull partnered Worthington, when the latter was 40, but with a boundary added Turnbull tried to cut M'Viear and had his off stump dislodged. Earle,a big man and a powerful hitter, contributed three sixes, hitting Gallachan out of the ground, but when batting well lost Worthington. who mistimed a delivery, sending the ball to Spring at point. He also contributed one six and six fours. Woolloy joined Earlo. He scored steadily and reached double figures when Earle was accounted for by Ongley, senr., off Cutler's first ball. Dawson started with singles. Woolley passed his half-eenutry before stumps were drawn. The visitors had completely captured the Mauawatu bowling at this stage.
