TOO MANY FALSE ALARMS

A return presented at to-day's meeting of tho Fire Board by Superintendent J. Creeke showed that during December there were 39 fires in Wellington (20 property, 5 chimneys, and 14 gorse, grass, and rubbish). Thero were 21 false alarms, of which 17 were justifiable and four malicious. For the nine months of tho year, April—December, there had been 352 fires, .as against 303 fo'- the same period of 1928, and 204 false alarms, as compared with 109 for 1925. No less than 70 malicious false alarms had been given, whereas last year the total for the nine months was 26.
