Two turbino sets liavo replaced Ihc former rcciprocalinß plant; they are the most powerful units Mint Itiiyo ever been built into a vessel, and Mie engine performance- has 'bcen'ncarly doubled. The two funnels have been shortened and made broader and as a result of some further alterations (lie ship has now an'outward appearance resembling iliat of tho Bremen and Eurona. ' These three ships will run in regular express service between Bremen and New York in the spring of 1930.
TRANSOCEANIC ZEPPELINS.
Dr. Kiep, of tho Haniburg-AmcriUa Line, which Is-passenger and feright agents for tho Zeppelin Airship Company, recently told the German Nautical Club that airship passenger flights had already proved profitable. Increased speed was being aimed at, and he was convinced that many of tho present drawbacks would be removed. The danger of Ore would exist as long as hydrogen was used, but an endeavour was being made to obtain a noninflammable gas with the same properties as
helium gas. The Hamburß-Amerika Line was much interested In tho development of air traffic and a number of their officers were being trained as sea and air pilots.
P. AND O. STEAMER CORMORIN,
The P. and O. steamer Cormorin, which was to hare been the first vessel to call at Hobart for this season's apple crop, will not now call and will consequently leavo Sydney, for Londou on 19th February Instead of ISth February.
_FOR AMERICAN PORTS AND LONDON
The Hermlnius, at present discharging at Port Chalmers, will load in New Zealand during February for New York, Boston, Halifax, and London, .sailing from Auckland about 28th February. ■ Her loading itinerary will be announced within a few days.
FEHNDALE REPORTS.
A radio message from the Ferndale, en route from Cairns, states that she expects to arrive at Timaru at 5 p.m. on Friday to commence Homeward loading. ;
