ITALY'S WOOL TRADE.
Italy has developed to a marked extent as a user of raw wool during the last 15 years. The Monthly Bulletin of the Wool Textile Delegation, Bradford, drew special attention to that fact in a recent issue. During 1928 the imports of wool into Italy were the equivalent of 350,000 bales ? an advance of 186 per cent, on the pre-war quantity. By way of contrast, Italian imports of tops have declined, being only a little more than half the quantity recorded before the war, and her imports of fabrics have decreased 25 per cent. The advance in the quantity of wool she now buys is due to the increase in her facilities for manufacturing tops. Whereas in' pre-war days she imported tops in large quantities for, the manufacture of fabrics, she now bandies the wool from its raw state to the full manufactured article. In addition she has shown appreciable expansion as an exporter of woollen fabrics, her trade in that regard being four times greater in 1928 thaii in 1913.
