AUCKLAND, .This Day.
The body of J. L. Davies, for whom a search has been made on the waterfront since last Wednesday, was recovered inside. the eastern tide deflector yesterday afternoon. His hat and coat and a number of letters written by him and Mrs. Julia Cubitt, in which they indicated their intention of committing suicide together, were found on the water's edge last week, and at the same time Mrs. Cubitfc was discovered lying unconscious .on ,the rocks. The body was seen floating by a passer-by, who informed the police. It was at once identified as.that of Davies. . , •■•-
An inquest will be opened to-day, but it will probably be adjourned sine die after formal evidence , has been taken, as Mrs. Cubitt, although she has continued to show improvement each day, is not yet in a fit' state to give evidence before the Coroner. So far she has not given any explanation of the affair to the police.
