QUEENSLAND CYCLONE
SHIPPING BUFFETED PASSENGERS' EXPERIENCES (Deceived 6th January, 10 a.m.) BEISBANE, This Day. A cyclone suddenly descended on the Queensland coast yesterday, catching shipping unawaros. The steamer Morinda suffered the full force of the gale and hove to. The Kallatina arrived at Cooktown from Thursday Island many hours late. Passengers told,, a thrilling story of their experiences. Mountainous seas buffeted the ship all night and at one stage the position was so serious that lifebuoys and lifebelts were issued to the passengers and crew. To add to the danger the steering apparatus failed and the vessel was steered through the cyclone by tempor- j ary means. All along the coast shipping is held up. Telcgraphinc communication north of Townsville- is interrupted.
