PREPARING FOR HOLIDAY MEETINGS

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") PALMERSTON NORTH, This Day. ' With the all-important holiday fixtures head o£ them, trainers at Awapuni yescrday morning were greeted with heavy racks, while steady rain interfered with iperations to some extent. Conditions im>roved after breakfast, and a drying wind >romises to speedily rectify matters. G. New braved the elements and was ;he first trainer to put in an appearance, ;ending Princess Betty, Tigrano, and a :ompanion over six furlongs on the outside if the course proper, but they were not isked to go against the watch.. Present ntentions are that Princess Betty will itay at home for the Manawatu fixture. " livening Hero was sent along over five iirlongs on the course proper, but did jot appear to appreciate the state of the ;oing, and took lmin 14see to get to the :nd of his task. Disrank, Bawkshaw, and Roundelay vere restricted to easy tasks on No. 1 ;rass. Disrank is to attend the .turau Meeting, where he will be a runner n the Porangahau Hack Handicap. A. j. Murray will be his pilot. The Nassau ;elding, Hawkshaw, who had his first outtig with the colours up at Woodville, fig.ires in the Nursery Handicap at Manaivatu, and will be ridden by W. Broughton. Roundelay will come in on the second day. Kilorell will return to maiden company it Awapuni on the opening day in an 3ndeavour to secure his overdue success, rhe Kilbroney gelding is well, and with Trainer J. Kelly in the saddle he ran the last three furlongs of his task on the course proper in 44see without being asked to give of his best. The same trainer lias Lady Lackham to represent him at the local fixture, and the daughter of Lackham and Lady Kotiripo will have the services of 11. Pitcon in the saddle. 'Lackham, who has been fulfilling stud duties with a degree of success, is to be liven an opportunity to prove himself on the race track, although it is, some years ?ince he sported silk. He won a six-fu'rlon.* hack event at Woodville in December, 1924. The chestnut is naturally carrying plenty of condition. -Yesterday morning his exercises were restricted to trotting and cantering on the sand, and it will probably be some time hence before he is ready to show his paces. Otairi (A. E. Stratton), who might well have been expected to revel in the heavy going, required lmin .2osec to complete his six-furlong task, the last three furlongs taking 42sec. The Paper Money gelding ran, however, on the extreme' outside ot' the.course throughout. , Bed Bank (A. E. Stratton) had the better of matters in a seven-furlon<* gallop ill company with Vinella (R. Mellis), Red Bank drawing away over the final pinch to negotiate the full distance in linin 39 2-ssee and the last three furlongs in 43 2-usec. Callamart (W. Taylor) and Royal Mission (R. G. Stratton) were sent over half a mile on the course proper, the former having the advantage at the finishing post after covering the distance in 57 2-ssec. Moutoa Treasury was exercised on the lead. It is meantime uncertain whether the Paper Money filly will be a runner on the opening day at Awapuni, but, being a handful for a light boy, no doubt a decision will be arrived at when it is ascertained whether it is possible to secure the services of a suitable light-weight. Good Acre (A. E. Stratton) galloped in promising fashion when he got to the end of half a mile in 56 2-ssee, having no light weight in the saddle. Desert Lad (Wj Taylor), who has been on the easy list for some little time past, negotiated the last three furlongs of his half-mile tas] in 43 2-ssec. Patearoa (J. Pagan), after taking 15sec for the first furlong, got to the end of half a. mile in 56 l-ssec, his stable companion, Dobbin, taking 57 4-ssec for the same distance. Plane, another of E. W. Watson's string, slipped over five furlongs, the last half-mile being left behind in 57 3-ssee Jiaeh member was worked separately Rouex (A. E. Stratton) had Askari (R Ct. Stratton) as a schooling companion over a round of the battens. The latter naturally jumped the faster and cleaner but Kouex is displaying distinct promise Askari is down to compete in the Tokomar!! Hurdles on the opening day at Awapuni. One entrant in this event in Peneus will not take his place on the day, ijSV ii oJ? ald haviu S decided to give the old fellow best, and he will in future fill the role of a hack. Airforce (Bromley), who made a fairly promising debut over the battens at Woodville, had Four Aces (A. E Stratton), a promising maiden from L. Knapp's stable, as a companion over six furlongs on the outside ot the course proper, the distance being negotiated in lmin 25 ".5 sec, with the last three furlongs in 41 4-5 Piuthair (R. G. Stratton) jumped off at the top of the straight to run on the outside ot the course proper throughout. The Kilbroney mare was speeded up over the closing portion to run the last three fur! longs-in 41sec. Imperial Spark was accorded a similar task, coming home from the five-furlong post in lmin 13sec. Mrs M Donald galloped her trio for ii <t IGir c*e * revers °. way. Llyu Dv (M-Laughhn) and Gesture (Bromley) jumped off at the judge's box to run live furlongs on the outside of the course proper in lmin llsec, Llyn Dv having the better of things. From a standing start Nimble (Shearman) completed a similar task m lmin lOsec, which was somewhat surprising. Gesture was not quite herself at Woodville, but duly won, and she should strip better at Ellerslie suffered a fall from a two-year-old on Wednesday morning. He received two nasty wounds on the scalp and forehead, which necessitated his being admitted to hospital. There is an entire absence of visitors at Awapuni as yet, but the next day or two should find them coming to hand. The only stranger m residence to date is Aspiring, who was left in G. New's care by the Riccarton mentor, W. Stone.
