CAtfNIVAL OPENS TO-MORROW
Some of the best of Australia's "cinder shifters'" are to compete at the Kilbirnie Stadium Speedway to-morrow night, when the first meeting of the holiday carnival is to be held. The visitors include Lionel van Praag and Charlie Spinks, two riders •who have performed with great distinction on Australian tracks, Spinks having also competed on various "dirt tracks" in England. It was only a few weeks ago that van Praag set up a record in Sydney, and that he is in fine form was shown by his first try-out on the Kilbirnie Speedway yesterday. Spinks is also a maker of records, and he, too, created a great impression by his display on the local track yesterday. Both are very spectacular riders, as also are Arthur Mann and Syd. Perkins, also from Australia. The two latter are credited with notable performances, and promise to play a very prominent part in to-morrow night's meeting, at which one o£ the principal events will be the Golden Helmet contest. All the Australians are challenging the present holder of the helmet, Wally Kilmister, the Wellington champion and record holder. The talent at this meeting will be easily the best ever seen here, and it will account for broadsiding of a very high order. Further particulars regarding the meeting are published elsewhere in this issue, and those who intend to be present are advised to note particularly the announcement regarding the reservation of seats.
