LODGE MEETINGS
Island Bay Lodge of Druids held its quarterly meeting last week, A.D. Bro. C. S. Cowie presiding over a good attendance. D.P. Bro. Ogden paid an official visit. Nominations were called for officers for the ensuing term. There was keen competition and the following were elected: — VA., Sister V. Newson; treasurer. Bro. H.. J. Crewes, F.T.; 1.G., Bro. Sherwood; 0.G., Bro. J. T. Lines; A.D.B.'s, Bro. <J. Reeves and Sister D. Harvey; V.A.B.'s, Sister D. Newson and Bro. L. Ripgs; M.C, Bro. F. Kuch, P.A.: sec, Bro. T. A. Molhson, P.S.; J.P.A., Bro. C. S. Cowie; R.C., Bro. C. Reeves, P.A. Delegates serving on various organisations were all re-eleet> cd. Bro. H. J. Crewes, P.A.. P.T., was nominated for the office of District President, P.A. Bro. G. Newson and the members of his orchestra were thanked for their services to the lodge. The attendance at the quarterly meeting ot Coronation Lodge, No. 20, U.A.0.D., was the largest for many years, and visitors were present from Excelsior, Pacific, Mewburn, Island Bay, Pride of Brooklyn, and Melrose Lodges, as well as members of the Royal- Arch Chapter. Brother Harrington, A.D., presided, and official visits were received from D.P. Brother Ogden CNo. 21 District), and D:P. Broth- % \? !il'1% (, No- 2 dist™t). The judges (Brothers Johnston, P.D.P., and Reeve, P.A.), examined the candidates for the V.A. chair, and the following officers were elected: -A.D., Bro. Smith; V.A., Bro. Kobertson; treasurer. Bro. Bott; M.C, Brother Bptt; delegate to Medical Institute, Brother Smithsin; delegate to Dispensary, Brother Maclaughlan; delegate to Hospital Committee, Brother Smithsin; delegate to R.A.C., Brother Rodd; delegates to Picnic Committee, Brothers Ingram and MoIIison; pianist, Bro. Maclaughlan; reporter, Bro. Ingram; candidate for District President, Bro. G. Rod; ritual coach, Bro. H. Laughton; stewards, Brothers Phillips, Rowland, Jorgenson, and Hill. During the evening the lodge was presented by R.A.D. Brother Ogden with the Mooney Shield, Brother Rowlauds, captain of the team, respondius:. A discussion ensued pu a letter received from Grand Lodge re maternity certificates, the following resolution being carried: "This meeting of Coronation Lodge protests against the action of the National Provident and Health Department's framing a regulation practically compelling the attendance of a medical practitioner at all cases of confinement, and thus inflicting undue hardship on country people, and great inconvenience to lodge secretaries, and urges the Grand Lodge Executive to take the matter up with other Friendly Societies." Contributors to the harmony of the evening were Brothers J. H. Laughton, Maclaughlan, Mollison, and Rowlands.
Excelsior Lodge, No. 11, U.A.0.D., held its meeting on Monday, Bro. George Ellis being in the A.D.'s chair. D.P. Bro. Barley received the honours of the lodge. The election of officers took place as follows, Bro. Barley, installing officer, assisted by P.A. Bro. Hall, acting as master of ceremonies: Arch Druid, Bro. Piercy; Vice .Arch, Bro. Bilesky; A.D. Bards, Bros. I. Clark and W. Jennings; V.A. Bards, Bros. Hislop and Rattray; Past Arch, Bro. Geo. Ellis; treasurer, Bro. H. Austin; iv. see., Bro. N. Edmonds; organist, Bro. E. J. King; inside guardian, Bro. Bailey; outside guardian, Bro. Oldham'; p. sec, Bro. William M'Laughlin. Bro. Alick Tyson was nominated for District President and received the votes of the lodge. A. vote of thanks to the visitors was passed.
The quarterly meeting of Loyal Newtown Lodge, Manchester Unity, Oddfellows, was held last week, when Bro. J. Waterhouse presided over an excellent, attendance. Visitors were welcomed from Sister Wai''B and Britannia Lodges. One nomination for membership was received. Officers for the ensuing term were elected as follows: N.G., Bro. J. C. Hears; E.S., Bro. A. Archer; L.M., Bro. Johns; conductor, Bro. Wilson; guardian, Bro. Wheeler. The remainder of the evening was devoted to harmony.
There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of Loyal Mangatainoka Lodge, M.U.0., held recently. N.G., Bro. A. W. •M'Queen, presided. P.G. Bro. H. A. Bick, on behalf of Loyal Tararua Lodge of Past Grands, congratulated the lodge on retaining the Farrow Shield. P.G. Bro. L. Kitchen (one of the judges) submitted a. report on the competition, and also offered his congratulations. Two candidates were proposed for membership. The election of officers resulted as follows: N.G., Bro. F. J. Martin; V.G., Bro. A. Skilton; E.S., Bro. T. Foley; conductor, Bro. R. Yewen; auditors, Bros. L. Kitchen and S. Matthews; treasurer, Bro. E. Osborne; representative to annual conference, Bro. H. A. Biek. The officers were installed in their chairs by L.M. Bro. L. Kitchen. '
The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Rose of the Valley Lodge, M.U.0., was held recently, N.G., Bro. Teasdale, presiding over a large attendance. The election of officers resulted as follows:—N.G., Bro. H. Hardy; V.G., Bro. A. Stevenson; E.S., Sister S. Reynolds; warden, Bro. W. Kells; guardian, Bro. R. Kells; conductors, Sister Hunter, Bro. Bird; auditors, Bro. Gower and Bro. Jenkins; lecture master, Bro. M'Kenzie. . A committee was appointed to help to entertain visitors at next district conference. The rest of the evening was spent in dancing, Bro. Bertlesen presiding at the piano.
The 'quarterly meeting of Loyal Britannia Lodge, M.U.0., was held last week, Bro. J. R. M'llraith, N.G., presiding over a good attendance. Two candidates were admitted to membership. Officers elected were: N.G., Bro. J. L. Mac Duff; V.G., Bro. J. H. Davidson; E.S., Bro. J. G. Riddick; conductor, Bro. J. Saunders. The following nominations were received for society officers: G.M., Bro. H. S. M." Quigley; D.G.M., Bro. W. I. Clark; directors, Bros. J. F. O'Sullivan and 0: G. Turner: grand trustee, Bro. A. Vf. Blair; grand treasurer, Bro. G. Eead. Lodge honours were accorded Bro. Shrimpton, G.S., and Bro. Harper (Loyal Charleston Lodge).
The quarterly meeting of Loyal Antipodean Lodge, M.U.0., was held last week, when Bro. N. Smith, N.G., presided over a splendid attendance. Visitors from Loyal Britannia Lodge were accorded lodge honours. Three ' proposals for membership were received and four candidates presented themselves for initiation. A number of applications from members over 65 years for cash payment out of re-cently-declared surplus were authorised to be paid if covered,by the new rules. Members were reminded of the gathering, at which the. judges' report, presentation' of Ritual Shield, and Bro. Turner's Merit Jewels would be made. Nomination for society officers were received as follows: Bro. W. I. Clark, P.8.G.M., as Deputy Grand Master; Bro. E. W. Guise, D.S., for a seat on the directorate; and Bro. A. C. Blair, P.D.G.M., as trustee. The election of officers resulted as follows: — 1.P.N.G., Bro. N. Smith; N.G., Bro. E. Berry; V.G., Bro. G. Partridge; E.S., Bro. J. M. Shannon; lecture master, Bro. G. Snelling, P.G.; warden, Bro. Sutton; guardian, Bro. Frear; conductors, Bros. G. Craddock and C. Hicks.
A special meeting of the Loyal Wellington Past Grands Lodge, M.U.0., was held last week, Bro. W. P. Holt, P.G, president,, presiding. Bro. K. Bell, D.G.M.; accompanied by district officers, and Bro. A. G; Shrimpton, G.S., were given a warm, reception on entering. The president extended greetings and lodge honours were accorded, to which Bros. Bell and Shrimpton-replied. The judges' report on the ritual competition was read by Bro. CO. Jorgenson, P.G., the lodges being placed as follows: Loyal Antipodean 80 per cent., Britannia 79 per cent., Sister Wallis 78 per cent., Newtown 75 per cent., Rose of the Valley li per cent., and Petone io per cent. The judges expressed their keen appreciation of the hi"h standard manifested at all meetings and for the great interest taken in ritual work. Bro. R. Bell, D.G.M., then presented the shield to Antipodean Lodge officers Bro N Smith, N.G., replying on behalf of his officers. Winners of Bro. Turner's Merit Jewels were Bio. J. R. M'llraith, N.G., with bister Julian second; Bro. G. Bell, I.P.NX}., with Sister M. Craddock second; Bro. T. Lynneberg, L.M., with Bro. J. baunders second. A vote of thanks was accorded Bro. ' Turner for presenting medals and to the judges for the services rendered. At the close of the meeting supper was provided by Bro. C. J. Burnett, and the rest of the evening was spent m dancing, various brothers and sisters supplying the music, while Bro. Jorgenson carried out the duties of M.C.
