CITY STREETS
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—Following the several letters in your paper, may I draw the attention of the City Fathers, to the . state of . the right-of-way leading from Moir street to Lloyd street. la wet weather this is a miniature river, and when fine one needs hob-nailed boota to walk through it. It would cost very little to bituminise or tar-seal this lane' which is used by the residents of Ellica street, Brougham street, and other streets in the vicinity, therefore the traffic is veryconsiderable. We are rated heavily enough and surely are entitled to a little consideration. I believe representations hava been made to the council, but the same old cry, "Jfo rates in, no money/* We pay our rates and see nothing for it (only cuttings, tunnels, etc., which cost thous> ands). We are unfortunate no coun* cillors live in the vicinity. May I also suggest to the responsible! authorities that a local policeman should be instructed to keep an eye occasionally; on this locality, as it-is sometimes thei rendezvous of rather questionable characters late at night, who make the place an unfit spectacle in the morning for thei numerous schoolchildren and working girlri who use it.—l am, etc., BROUGHAM STREET RATEPAYER.'
