KARORI CLUB
At Trentham on Saturday the members of the Karori Rifle Club fired the second championship at ranges 800 yards and 900 yards.. . There was a decided improvement in the weather conditions for this match, the wind direction being constant, although at times it varied sufficiently in intensity to make several degrees' change in deflection necessary to "keep near the bull. At 800 yards, the shooting was of a particularly high order, the most noteworthy performance being that put up by J. Grove. Starting with an inner, he went on to put his remaining nine shots into the bull, thus scoring a 49 that would require a possible to beat it. Next in order of merit was H. V. Croxton, who dropped three points in his first five shots, but finished strongly with five bulls for 47. L. Old started off with five bulls, then an inner, followed by a "bird," and three bulls to finish, made his total 47. Forty-six's were scored by no fewer than six competitors at this range. At 900 yards the conditions were a trifle more difficult and intensity changes more frequent. A. V. Swanson headed the list at this range with 45, dropping only three points . with his last eight shots. There were four score of 44, and three of 43. Pride of place for the day's shooting went-to J. Grove, who followed up his 49 at .800 yards with 44 at 900 yards, and his total of 93 points is four points better than the club standard* Others to exceed the standard were Old with M, and Porter and Potts with 90 apiece. All these members are handicap men. A return to something approaching his true form enabled X. H. R.- Boon to head the list for scratch men, and his 89 equals the standard. ■ Saturday's scores are as follow:— 800 000 _ „ :'yds. yds. Hep. Tl. J. Crove . . 49 44 0 93 L. Old 47 44 0 91 R.
