THEFT FROM SHOP
CASH REGISTER ROBBED

CHEISTCHURCH, This Day. A daring robbery took place on Saturday night at tho premises of Messrs F. E. and E. C. Matthews, Ltd., pastrycooks and caterers, at the corner of Colombo and Battorsea streets, Sydenham, when tho cash register was rifled and £24 removed.
Ihe robbery took place at about 10.30 p.m., when there were quite a number of people round the street. Customers, however, were few, and the girl in charge of the shop had retired to a small room immediately at tho back, but at no great distance from tho counter. She heard the cash register ring, and went to make investigations. She then called to Mr. Frank Matthews, and they both rushed out to see a man dashing out the front door. He made off up Battersea street and eluded capture. Twopence had been rung upon the cash register, and the drawer left open The thief had evidently grabbed all the notes in sight, leaving some silver and coppers.'
