APPALLING CONDITIONS

(Received 19th November, 1.45 p.m.) SHANGHAI, 18th November. following a period of inactivity a sudden renewal of Soviet warlike operations is reported on both the Eastern and Western sectors of the Chinese Eastern Railway. Engagements resulted in the destruction of a. portion of the railway. Soviet 'planes dropped thirty bombs, destroying the Chinese aerodrome at Mutanehiang. In, severe fighting in the Dalainor regioa the Chinese suffered heavily, Soviet aerial attacks' destroying one train. Conditions along the front are appalling, with a temperature of 30des below zero. The Chinese are undergoing terrible privation.
