PRIMAGE DUTY OPPOSED

DXJNEDIN, 18th November. At, a meeting of the council of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce tonight the following resolution bearing on the primage duty was carried; — 'That owing to tho large increase in valued imports (as stated in the Abstract of Statistics for 26th October) and the automatic increase in revenue from Customs duty thereon, this chamber is of opinion that the further collection of the additional 1 per cent, primage duty is not now necessary, and urges the Government to remove tho charge at tho earliest possible mo. ment."
