TAHTJMNUI LOAN POLL ROSE GARDEN IN BLOOM (From Our Own Correspondent.) JSTELSON, 14th November. In a poll-taken yesterday, the Jrate- ' payers in.the Tahunanui Town district decided to borrow £.3210. for the: purpose of—(1) bituniinising. the main highway through ,thq Town Board's - area; (2) stabilising the sea wall;! ana (3) for the.drainage of the main road. ; The proposal was carried by •a ; majorityoor 164 votes, the details of the voting being: For the proposal, 184; against, 20; informal, 2. At the present time the rose garden in the Queen's Gardens, which was presented to the city by the Nelson Horticultural Society, is a splendid sight, nearly every kind of'rose is in heavy bloom. ■ , A recommendation to the Society' for the. Prevention-of Cruelty to Animals, Nelson, has been made by the Waimea -. , branch of the Farmers' Union to the effect that'when stock are to be in- - ejected by the society's inspector a local J.P.be called to view the animals, if possible,, he being conversant with the local conditions.
