The Minister of Education (the Hon. H. Atmore) will leave for Auckland on Sunday evening. The Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. J. G. Cobbe) left for the North last night. Mr. F. "W. Furkert, Engineer-in-Chief, the Public Works Department, left for Auckland last night. Dr. C. J. Reakes, Direc-tor-General of Agriculture, and Mr. A. H. Cockayne, Assistant Director-General, are visiting Christehureh. Mr. Leon de Mauny, who leaves by the Ulimaroa to-day on a brief English visit, will leave London again on Ist February, returning to Wellington in mid-March. The death is announced by {ho Press Association from Dunedin of Mr. A. H. Tonkinson, solicitor, of the firm of Messrs. Tonkinson and "Wood, aged 61. Mr. Tonkinson was a well-known yachtsman. . , Mr. D. J. Gibbs, who takes the seat rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr. Tripe, was welcomed to the council table of the Wellington"Acclimatisation Society last night by the chairman (Mr. L. O. H. Tripp). The congratulations of the Board of Managers of the Petone Technical School were last evening accorded to the Hon. T. M. Wilford on the two honours recently accorded him—his appointments as King's Counsel and as High Commissioner for the Dominion. The board also thanked Mr. Wilfordfor the interest he had taken in the establishment of a Technical High School for Petone. . * The.Board of Managers of the Petone Technical School passed the following resolution last evening: "That a letter of appreciation be sent to the Hon. H. A. Atmore, M.P., Minister of Education, thanking him for the establishing of a Technical High School in Petone, and also to^ express appreciation for the attention he is giving to the' children of the schools hi the Dominion for their general advancement in* all phases ■■ of educational work." Mr. R. "W. Fenton, assistant to the Government Publicity Officer, has tendered his resignation to take up the. general management of two 'companies trading as Loisvale Photographic' House, Ltd., and Filmcraft, Ltd:, Miramar, Although very little known by the public, these two companies are amongst the largest photographic concerns in the Dominion, employing close on fifty people. Mr. Fenton, who will also be a director of both concerns, takes up his. duties next mouth.
