CHILLING PROBLEMS

SCIENTISTS INVESTIGATING

The party of English scientists who are investigating cold storage problems in the Dominion has i been in Wellington for some days collecting data from various Departmental officers. Interviews have been held with the Meat Board, with fruitgrowers, and with others interested in cold storage problems. Tp-day the party leaves for Hastings in order to investigate all processes connected with the killing of meat and its shipment to England. The Ruahine's shipment of frozen meat on the 4th' January next will include some special lots, the full history of which will be known to the .scientists. They will closely observe the meat from the time it is killed right through all processes and phases of transportation, and while on its way to England this meat will still be the subject of close scrutiny by one of the scientists. This special shipment is now being got ready, and the object of the visit to Hastings is to . uperintend it. Two other special shipments on the same linea will be got ready, later in the season, one being from the South Island. As a result, it is hoped to gather valuable information as to refrigerating problems. *
