PHENOMENON AT SEA.

An unusual phenomenon was seen from the White Star liner Euripides, which reactied Southampton from Australia and South Africa on 3rd October. When the liner was on its

way up the west coast of Africa and was crossing the Southern Equatorial Current, it was noticed that the southern edge of the stream was stationary, while the main stream was travelling at a steady three knots. The edge of the current was piled up with a mass of seaweed and other ocean algae, which showed no sign of movement. In the vicinity were thousands of flying fish. Sir Frank Dyson, the Astronomer Royal, who was one of the passengers, witnessed the phenomenon with great interest, and said It was an exceedingly beautiful sight. He would never have believed it had he not seen it. Captain H. Bowan, the commander, said he had crossed the Stream on many occasions, but he had never seen anything like it before.
