London market for 'New Zealand butter is very sensitive to production in Australia, which at latest mail reports is well maintained in Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland. Since the beginning of the season on Ist July, however, exports have been slightly below normal, the quantity shipped being 7,988,0931b, compared with 11,638,0191b exported in 1928 and 3,992,4781b in 1927. It is expected that the period of heavy production in .Victoria will be longer than usual, and the present volume of export business is regarded as satisfactory. Statistics relating to exports of butter and cheese from Australia from Ist July to 12th October, the latest return available, compiled by the Dairy Produce Export Board, ■how that shipments to all ports amounted to 5290 tons of butter, against 7064 tons shipped last year in the corresponding period.
