The death is 'reported by tho Press Association from Christehurch of Mr. A. J. O'Malley, a well-known hotelkeeper and formerly a member of' the Government Survey Department. He was 59 years of age.

N.Z.S.C, who returned to New Zealand last month after having graduated at Staff College, Camberley, and from War Office duty, has now taken-up his duties as staff officer in charge of Begimental District No. 11, at Dunedin. , Major Mead commanded the First Battalion of tho Canterbury Regiment for a time during the war. Captain L. Hunt, whose place ho takes at Duuedin, is going to Auckland, where he will be attached to the General Staff
