The Minister of Education (the Hon. If. Atmore). stated in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon that the plans of a new school at Rongotai had been prepared, and aninvestigation •was now being made as to tho effect the opening of the- new school would have upon the schools in the vicinity.
The Minister of Railways (tho'Hon. W. B. Taverner) left for Dunedin last night. Ho will return to Wellington on Tuesday. ■ - .
The.Postmaster-General (the Hon. J B. Donald) left "Wellington for Auckland last night."
The death is 'reported by tho Press Association from Christehurch of Mr. A. J. O'Malley, a well-known hotelkeeper and formerly a member of' the Government Survey Department. He was 59 years of age.
Mr. L. Paynter, who has been Government Orchardist at Christchurch for the last seven years, has been promoted to Auckland. He was honoured by his fellow-officers of the Department of Agriculture at Christchurch on Wednesday afternoon, when, he was presented with an oak clock.
Major O. H. Mead, D.S.O. N.Z.S.C, who returned to New Zealand last month after having graduated at Staff College, Camberley, and from War Office duty, has now taken-up his duties as staff officer in charge of Begimental District No. 11, at Dunedin. , Major Mead commanded the First Battalion of tho Canterbury Regiment for a time during the war. Captain L. Hunt, whose place ho takes at Duuedin, is going to Auckland, where he will be attached to the General Staff
