LOCAL CAMPAIGNS

The Mayor has requested the various Ratepayers' Associations in the city to assist him in raising funds-for relief of those sufferers by the recent disastrous earthquake.

The_ Roseneath and Oriental Bay Association believing that residents of their district feel thankful for their light- escape, and will be only too ready to help, is calling a public meeting in the Roseneath Schoolroom in conjunction with the school committee on Monday at 8 p.m., with a view to the formation of a committee to raise funds. ,

The Lyall Bay Progressive. Association has convened a meeting of resid 1 ents to be held in the Katea Hall on Monday at 8 p.m., to organise a campaign' to raise the district's contribution towards the Earthquake Relief Fund. Local sports bodies and organisations have promised their active support, and it is hoped that residents will respond readily.i At a meeting of the executive of the Karori Progressive Association on Thursday, the president, Mr. W. Simm, expressed great sympathy with those who bad suffered from the recent earthquake. He felt sure he voiced the opinion of the association in according hearty support to the Mayor in his efforts to raise funds. It was decided to hold a public meeting on Tuesday, 2nd July, at the Parish Hall, Karori, at 2.30 p.m. Ladies are particularly invited, to be present. In aid of the Earthquke Fund, the Petone Municipal Band is to give a concert in. the Palace Theatre, Potone,

on Sunday night. First-class talent has been engaged, and a silver coin collection will be taken up. A meeting of citizens was held at Otaki on Thursday, to consider means of assisting the distressed. About £40 was promised in the room, and subscription lists have been opened. Residents of the Island Bay District are notified of a meeting to be held in the Bowling Club pavilion on Monday ovening, convened by the Surf Club to arrange for the" raising of funds.
