WERAROA FARM
ASSISTANCE FOR APPLICANTS
Whether the Government will afford any financial assistance to successful applicants in the ballot for sections on the Weraroa State Farm, which is being disposed of, was an inquiry put to the Minister of Lands by Mr. H. G. Dickie (Patea) in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon. The object of such assistance, said Mr. Dickie would be to enable successful applicants' to erect homes and stock their holdings. The Hon. G. W. Forbes replied that there was no provision in the law to allow the Government to give financial assistance to applicants in the manner suggested. In the case of Weraroa it was not considered necessary that financial assistance would be required because the estate was a highly improved one. Under the advances «to settlers scheme, men could be assisted in regard ,to the erection of buildings, and the rural credit scheme existed for the purposes of making advances for stocking purposes. In the circumstances he thought the position was fairly well covered in regard to Weraroa. The Minister added that later in the session financial proposals would be laid before Parliament dealing with assistance for settlers going on to Crown land
