POWER LUTES COLLAPSE

EOTOEUA, 27th June. A nevera storm swept the district to-day The main power lines collapsed and the current was cut off .from Botorua for nearly two hours. At Turakina big trees were blown down and there was much damage to houses and electric power poles and telegraph lines.

At Ngongotaha the National Timber Company's mill was unroofed, trees were ripped down, and there was much general damage. .There were many narrow escapes, from flying timber and iron. The storm crossed the lake between Mokoia Island and Mamurana. raising a tremendous sea. Severe thunderstorms have been experienced at intervals all day, with heavy rain at Eotorua. -
