MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Police and summons cases were dealt with by Mr. E. Page, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court to-day. • ■•
Henry David Alphonsus Codyre, a labourer, aged 38, was fined 10s for his second offence of drunkenness, and was similarly dealt with for a breach of his prohibition order. .
Three charges of theft of goods from Cuba street shops, of a total value of £1 2s Bd, were admitted by Edmund Kay, alias Edward Kay, a labourer, aged 34, for whom Mr. Willis appeared. Sub-Inspector Lander said. that at 4.45 p.m. yesterday, Kay. was seen stealing a quilt from Eadl'ord and Co.'s shop, and was handed over to a constable, who found in his possession a plate, which, it was later ascertained, was stolen from M'Duff's. The defendant's house was searched and a piece of dress material, which Kay admitted having stolen the previous day from Radford's, was found. When arrested yesterday. Kay was under the influence of liquor, but there.was no evidence a8 to his condition when he stole the dress material. He had been before the Court previously. Counsel said that the defendant was out of work and appeared to be having rather a hard struggle. The Magistrate remanded the accused until to-morrow for sentence, pending a report from the Probation Officer (Mr. T. P. Mills).
