UNITED SERVICES BALL
The stern discipline of Army and Navy was waived last night when officers of the. United Services met at the Adelphi Cabaret and entertained a large assemblage of guests at a ball which must rank among the jolliest held at the cabaret. The gathering was representative of the Army, Navy and Air Force, and was a brilliant affair. The ballroom was cleared of tables, easy, chairs being provided, and in the roof garden and lounge satisfactory arrangements had been made for the comfort of guests. Refreshments were served in the roof garden, and a dai:-ty supper was laid in the blue room. Streamers, grotesque caps, and other favours soon created a spirit of informality, and dancing was kept up till an early hour in a pleasing atmosphere of camaraderie. Several of the representatiye officers were, hosts, and saw that their guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Lieutenant-Com-mander Lever Naylor 5 Captain Man-tell-Harding (hon. secretary), and Lieutenant Maiilo were responsible for the happy arrangements that kept the large assemblage well entertained. A party from "Government House included Countess Metaxa, Captain Boyle, and Captain Orr-Ewing. Among the guests were General and Mrs. Young (the latter in gold tissue and black lace), Miss Young (black georgette), Lieut.-Col. and Mrs. Saunders (black embossed georgette), Mrs. Harding- (black velvet), Major Parr and Mrs. Fafr (pink and silver), Lieut.-Colonel Pilkington and Mrs. Pilkington (black, embossed georgette), Mr. and Mrs.. Cyril Martin (black with handsome wrap of pink velvet with diamante trimming), Brigadier Burgess, Mrs. J. G. Coates (silver lame with fringed .skirt), Mrs. Peacock (cherry ring velvet), Mr. and Mrs. Poole (black lace), Captain and Mrs. Butcher (blue), Captain and Mrs. Parkinson (pink), Colonel Powles and Miss Powles (pink with diamante trimming on the skirt), Colonel M'Lean and Miss Mary M'Lean (embroidered cream georgette), Captain and Mrs. S. Natuseh ' (rust-coloured velvet-embossed georgette), Captain and Mrs. Campbell (black georgette), Colonel Beere and Mrs. Beere (black and silver), Colonel and Mrs. Chesney (blue), Mr. and Mrs. J. Peacock (red and spangled embroideries), Dr. and Mrs. Steele (flowered pink chiffon), Miss Richardson (blatk velvet), Miss M. Ramsay (frilled cream georgette), Colonel and Mrs. Hunter (black and silver), Miss L. Brandon (blue and white embossed georgette), Captain and Mrs. A. Sievwright (black and floral taffetas), Miss C. M'Gregor (rust-coloured georgette), Mr. and Mrs. Wauchop (black- lace), Miss Alison Kirkealdie (black and silver), Lieut, and Mrs. Reid (cream), Mr. and Mrs. J; W. Mawson (black lace and tulle).
