A RISKY EXPERIMENT

(Special to "The Evening Post.") v / MASTEETON, This Day. "It should be cut-out altogether," said the principal of the Wairarapa High School (Dr. S. H. Uttley) at a meeting of the Wairarapa Secondary Education Board last night, with reference to the recent explosion at the High School during an experiment on, the synthesis of water, in which a girl was injured in the 1 eye: Dr. Uttley said he had decided to discontinue the experiment at the school. In that view, he added, he was supported, -unofficially, by an inspector. -

A long report was received regarding the explosion. It was stated by the teacher who carried'out the experiment that it was conducted most carefully, according to the detailed instructions given in Caradus's book on experimental science. The teacher pointed out that the instructions "- needed modification. .... , .

- It was reported that the exact effect of the injuries sustained by the girl was not yet definitely known. ■ In reply to the chairman, Mr. T. Jordan, Dr. Uttley said that the chemicals at the school were kept under proper supervision. ' .
