HEAVY RAINS
BETTER PROSPECTS
In most parts of the Dominion unsettled weather conditions have prevailed, but this morning > they • were generally less severe, and; in- Westland there was a marked' improvement. Pressure has risen,.- especially'; from Cook. Strait southwards, the centre :of the Cyclone having'moved further eastwards. Bain .has: been general, during the past "twenty-four hours, -arid..inmany'places' it has been heavy. At Wellington the total was 241. points, Greytown 201 points; Wariganui; 180 points, Tenraka 205 points,-and Orari 213 points. , South-westerly to south?' erly winds have prevailed, strong generally, and at gale force in places. The forecast is" for .south-westerly winds, moderate to strong generally and reaching gale force in parts" of Cook Strait and North Auckland, ;but moderating' gradually, and later Veering to westerlies in the south. The weather is likely to .be fair on the" west coast of the South Island and in most of Otago, otherwise still unsettled with showers. or misty rain, but improving. Cool temperatures are likely.
