Dr. Jordan, late of Pahnerston ■North, who was recently appointed to Murchison by the board, has sent in notice of his resignation. A deputation from the Murchison County Council waited on the board, and asked that the present subsidy paid by the board be 'increased to £350 to ! attract a good medical man to the dis-' tnct; The request was, however, refused, i and it was resolved to advertise the posi- , tion with a subsidy of £200. -The harbourmaster at Port Nelson reported to the Harbour Board to-day that the . following cargo passed over the. wharves during May: Inward, 12,779 toiib; outward, 5191 tons. The corresponding figures lor May last year were 11,376 tons and 4204 iona respectively. The total increase for May was 2303 tons. The eight plays presented in Nelson weie attended by approximately 8500 persons. - Road improvement works have been subsidised by the Nelson Autompbile Association during the past twelve months to the extent of-£l6O.
