NO DINING ROOMS

AUCKLAND, This Day. The chairman of the Manukau Licensing Committee (Mr. F. H. Levien, 5.M.).-passed severe strictures on the inadequate provision at a certain Onehunga hotol. He said that on one occasion, on going in for dinner, he had to search hard for the dining-room. Eventually, a stout old lady requested him to go into the kitchen, where she could give him cold meat and potatoes. The police had reported -favourably on the general conduct of the house.
Counsel for the new licensee stated that the matter had now been remedied.. , .
Cardinal Vannutelli is the oldest cardinal. He will be 93 on his next birthday. He was a cardinal when the Pope ■was an unknown 'priest' of 22. In appearance the cardinal is slender, and still a fausy i&raight wt,.-wit3i a fen if slow step.
