FAVOURABLE WEATHER
To-day's general holiday in celebra tion of the King's Birthday is being favoured with fine weather, with the result- that many holiday-makers are spending at least part of the day out of doors. A liberal display of bunting ia in evidence on buildings, ships' in. port are "dressed," and a royal salute of twenty-one guns was fired at noon from Point Jerningham. Attractions for holiday-makers are numerous and train excursions have been well patronised. BHgby football enthusiasts naturally made their way it large numbers at Athletic Park to see thirty players in the Possibles v. Probables match striving to catch the selectors' eyes, for from the players in this match will be selected the majority of the team to tour Australia. The curtain-raiser was a contest between Wellington College, and Scots College, and a game in the morning was played between Petone and Motueka. Soccer devotees found plenty at the Basin Beserve, to claim their patronage, the star item being the encounter between Wellington and Canterbury. • ... - Golfers are spending a full day on the various links under ideal conditions, local competitions and matches having been arranged, and a number have made the trip to Masterton for the tournament which is being played there. _ The Wellington Miniature Bifie Association is to-day holding its annual championship meeting at the Winter Show Building. . Followers of the Turf are attending the second day of. the Otaki Bacing Club's Meeting in large numbers.'- Not a few journeyed to Hawkes Bay for the trots. ■•'...
