BUGBY,, 26th April. The Primo Minister, speaking at Bristol last night, extended a further welcome on behalf of the British Government to the* United States naval proposals. Mr. Baldwin recalled that }n his important'declaration at Geneva Mr. Gibson, the United States delegate, declared the purpose of. his Government to be to secure not merely a limitation, but a reduction of armaments, and its plied to every class of war vessel.
Mr. Baldwin continued: "On behalf of His Majesty?s Government, I make

This in,-and has been our purpose and tloniro throughout, and wo will co-operate cordially with, the United States to secure ils general acceptance. Hut Ihifi is not tho only value of tho American declaration. Mr. Gibson indicated broadly tho lines upon which liis Government have thought an agreement for naval reduction Bhould.be sought? Wo must wait for that until the United States Government feel that the momenthas conic for them to givo concrcto form to their proposals. But I want to say at once that wo cordially welcome these now suggestions, which appear to us vary helpful. Above all, we wclcomo and wo 'appreciate the,enlightened spirit in which President Hoover has approached this difficult problem, and we hopo with American aid to iind in his suggestions the basis of a practical solution." /
The Home Secretary, Sir W. Joyn-son-Hicks, at a mooting at Hounslow last night, expressed tho need for a,general reduction of land and sea forces, adding: "If wo can get rid of great armaments, we can do more to secure peace than even by tho pacts we have signed. I take this opportunity of saying on behalf of-His Majesty's Government how warmly we have welcomed tho declaration of the United States in favour of a reduction of armaments, and wo shall do all we can to support their views." ■■''..
