AERIAL EVENTS

ENTERPRISE IN AUSTRALIA

(From "The Post's" Representative.) ,' , ', SYDNEY, 18th April.

This year promises' to be a red-letter one in Australia for private aerial enterprise. ■ '■ '■ i The first outstanding event will be a big pageant in Sydney next month, with, among other events, the Derby Handicap of £500. This race attracted last year about thirty flyers, but. the field is likely' '.to be, bigger on this occasion, and to attract the cream of the airmen. Another notable, air event will be the establishment in June of the East-West passenger and mail service, connecting Perth and Adelaide by air with massive 14-passenger Hercules air liners, and expediting by that means the outward and inward English mails for all the. States. This will be followed towards the end of the year by a great cross-continent air race, commencing in Sydney and'finishing m Perth, in connection with tho centenary of. Western Australia. Sydney has now a number of airwomen, and it is not improbable that one or tiro of them will "hop off", in-this event if they think the conditions offer them any prospect of. success.
