WELLINGTON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA.
Music lovers of Wellington will note with pleasure the announcement of a Tchaikovsky programme for tho first' concert of tho Wellington Symphony Orchestra (Inc.). The performance commences at S p.m. on Thursday, the second of May,' and takes place in the big Town Hall. Tchaikovsky's "Pathetic" Symphony, possibly most popular of all symphonies, Is the big Item of the programme, and the orchestra, nearly seventy strong, and under tho direction of Mr. Leon de Mauny, is fully equipped to tackle.this magnificent work. Tho performance of this work, It might ba mentioned, Is In response to an almost unanimous request from Wellington's musical public. Other works on .the programme include the Italian Caprice arid Tchaikovsky's famous "1812" Overture—the ; orchestra ■ for the latter Item being specially .augmented.-as,tho score provides, by brass-band", players. . Thai should prove the most thrilling performance of this old favourite that Wellington has yet heard. Tho "CasseNolsetto". ■■ (Nut-Cracker) Suite—the loveliest and most entertaining of Tschaikovsky's ballet suites—will also be performed. Mr. Claude' Tanner Is the 'cello soloist in the "Rococo variations,' and Madame Evelyn de Mauny will be at the piano. It should be noted that subscribers to the Wellington Symphony Orchestra have'the option of booking the samo seats right through tho season.
