KETCH ASHORE

NOT IN IMMINENT DANGER

(By Telegraph.—Press. Association.)

NEW PLYMOUTH, 31st March.

The auxiliary ketch Aratapu, 125 tons, went ashore at the entrance to tho Waitara River on Saturday, and is still fast, apparently on a mud bottom. On Friday night the vessel, en route from Westport for Waitara with coal, called at New Plymouth to shelter from the blustering weather. On Saturday she resumed her voyage and went aground while endeavouring to enter the river port with high tides. She is rocking badly, but at present it is not seriously feared that she will be damaged while she remains in her present position, although it is possible she may not be refloated until next spring tide Attempts so far have been unsuccessful.
