INCREASE IN PRODUCTION

Williams, Under-Secretary] of the Board of Trade, stated that, ac« cording to particulars, supplied by the General Industrial Council, of the glovemaking industry, the quantity of leather gloves produced in this country in the last quarter of 1925 was 102,020 dozen pairs, while in the corresponding period of 1928 it was 143,087 dozen. pairs. In regard to fabric gloves, 24,069 dozen pairs were produced in the fourth. quarter of 1925, and 57,024 dozen pairs in the corresponding period of 1928. Sir Basil Peto, iv answer to whose question this statement was made, suggested that the increase of production, was the result of safeguarding duties.
