NELSON, 14th March,

The late manager of the' Commercial Bank of Australia.in Nelson, , Mr. Neville, has been promoted to an inspector for the bank. . .

Miss Elsie Christian and Miss Doris Christian were successful Nelson candidates in tho theory examinations of. Hie Trinity College of Music,' London.

At a meeting of the Nelson branch of the New v Zealand 1 Farmers' Union, several members were in favour of tho compromise of half an.hour in the daylight saving scheme, but wero against advancing the clock a full hour. Others said that the measure was of no advantage to farmers, aiid they decided to oppose it. The following resolution was passed: "That (his executive is opposed to any further legislation dealing with the principle of daylight saving, and that branches be asked to oppose the measure." On tho grounds that the country schools in the district, would be weakened and reduced in grade, as thechildren between the ages of 12 and 15 would have to attend post-primary schools, the Nelson branch of the Farmers' Union decided to oppose tho introduction of junior high schools into the Nelson district. '

Visitors to Mount Arthur aud the Tableland in future will have the benefit of two newly-erected huts and a shelter shed situated at Salisbury Open, on the eastern edge of the Tableland. The buildings were erected by the Mount Balloon Scenic Board, the cost being defrayed by the Tourist Department, private subscriptions,, and visitors'' fees'. -
