RUGBY FOOTBALL
OLD BOYS' CLUB
The annual meeting of the Wellington College Old Boys Football (JJub was iield last evening, Dr. J. S. Elliott presiding over a large attendance.
The annual report, which wus adopted, showed that nine teams were entered in tho various grades, a record since the club was established in 1897. There was a total of 181) playing members. Satisfaction was expressed at tlic club's position of fourth in tho club championship. A marked improvement in play was noticeable in the lower grades, particularly in the fifth, third.B, and fourth A teams. The fifth grade team did well to win premier position in that grade. An abnormal number of injuries handicapped the senior team during the season, and on that account the position of fourth in the senior grade was very satisfactory. A very sound financial position wati-disclosed.
Mr. C. Rushbrook was congratulated upon gaining a place in tho New Zealand team which toured South Africa, and it was expected that" his experience would be of added benefit to the club.
Appreciation was expressed of Mr. Gauntlet's coaching services over a number of years. They would be missed this season on account of Mr. Gauntlet's departure for England. \ Mr. W. A. Armour, headmaster of Wellington College, was thanked for his help in. connection with .night training work on the college grounds. Mr. Armour stated that the new building, to be erected soon, would necessitate the demolition of the gymnasium which had been ■in use as dressing rooms. His plan to remove the building to a site near the baths was not viewed with favour by the education authorities. A proposal to purchase the material.of the demolished gymnasium for , re-erection on the proposed site, with the 'permission of the trustees, was referred to the.incoming committee.
It.was agreed to transfer £25 from the general fund to the gymnasium fund. A motion to donate £2 2s to the St. John Ambulance and £1 Is to the City Ambulance was carried.
