TOURIST OFFICERS"' VISIT

• Oti Saturday an-"at home" was given on the Nelson Croquet Club's lawn for the purpose of congratulating Mrs. Waters, tlie captain of the club, on her success at the New Plymouth tournament, and to bid farewell to Mrs. Brice, Mrs. Ogilvie, Mrs. /Thomson, Mrs. Askew, and' Mies N. .Gilkinson. , ' '■'■ '" . : A new high school will be opened at Murchison on 21st April. > \ ■■ ■ As a sequel to Leighton ■Arthur■ News admission to the hospital on Friday-night in an unconscious condition, Leslie James Gardiner was charged at the Magistrate's Court to-day with assaulting New, causing bodily harm. The Nelson Education Board to-day passed a resolution protesting against any increase in district high schools fees. The party of tourist officers who have been visiting the Moteueka and Golden Bay districts in company with Mr. G. C. Black, M.P., returned to-day. Their tour, extended to Blenheim, Collingwood, Takaka, Pohara, Tarakohe, Pu Pu Springs, Riwaka hop and tobacco gardens, Tasman orchards, Lake Rotoiti, Spooner's Range, and the Three Bridges drive. Mr. A. E. Wilson (Tourist Department inspector) was impressed with,, in his own words, "the wonderful scenery" in the district. As Wanganui has withdrawn from the Hawke Cup cricket competition, Nelson will play a match at Easter against the winners of the Waiapu v. Manawatu match to be played next week. This will be Nelson's first Hawke Cup match for three years. ":
On Saturday the Athletic and College senior cricket teams commenced a match on the college ground.: Hull scored 43 of Athletics total of. 108. ...R. Newman made 30 for the College team, which compiled only 74., At the Park, Brightwater seniois, winners of the Waim'ea competition, commenced a match with Old Boys, winners of the town championship. In the first innings Brightwater made 143, R. Eyles (47). being top. scorer.- J. Newmau took six wickets for 30. Old Boys lost eight wickets for 237 runs, E. R. Nealo 98. .
Preliminary arrangements have been mado "by Mr. G. C. Black, M.P., and Mr. A. 15.
