PETONE COUNCIL'S WISHES

The question of the proposed ramp to replace the level crossing on the Hutt road at Petone was discussed at the Petone Borough Council meeting last night.

Councillor A. Scholefield thought that the Petone Council, as the local body most interested, should know as soon as possible where the ramp was to.be placed., ■■ :;.] . ■••■ ; ,x; •■-:. ..■ ;•. ■ ..■.:> ■. The Mayor (Mr. D. M'Kenzio) said that he had interviewed: the district railway engineer, who had stated that the council would be consulted as to the position of the ramp. The Department was now preparing plans, and every consideration would be given to the council's ideas as to where the ramp should go. Councillor .V. E. Jacobson was of opinion that the council should not swait until definite ideas were down on paper. The. ramp could make or mar Petone, and immediate action should bo taken by the council in choosing its site. On his motion it was decided to ask the Mayor and the Borough Engineer (Mr. G. L. Jackson), not as the council's representatives, but as leading citizens, to wait upon tho Chief Eailway Engineer in the matter.
