THE AERO CLUB
GIFT OF AN AEROPLANE
The proprietors of the "Evening Post" have offered to present to the Wellington Aero Club the cost of an aeroplane. The offer was contained in the following letter sent to the secretary of the Club on 7th March:—
"Dear Sir, —AYe have pleasure in informing you that we, the proprietors of the 'Evening Post,' have decided to present the AVellington Aero Club with a 'plane, which, we understand, will cost approximately £830.
"The 'Evening Post' has consistently held the opinion that AVellington should not lag behind other cities in New Zealand as an airport, and we trust the gift of a 'plane will assist the Aero Club in its good work of creating and developing an 'air sense' worthy of the Capital City.— Yours faithfully, Blundell Bros., Ltd."
The following acceptance has been received:—
. "Dear Sirs, —I am requested by the committee of the Wellington Aero Club to acknowledge receipt of your letter of 7th March, in which you intimate that the proprietors of the 'Evening Post' will donate to the club an aeroplane at a cost of £830. On behalf of the club I wish to express its grateful thanks for this most generous and public-spirited donation. The action of the proprietors of the 'Evening Post' will, we feel assured, give a lead in the movement which will stimulate others to assist us in our object of developing aviation and" stimulating an air sense iv AVellington.
"Our object is to obtain a sum of £4000, which will cover all capital expenditure, including two 'planes and tho hangar, with provision for necessary working expenses for tho first year. Our membership is increasing, and we are' confident that our annual income from subscriptions and fees will cover all future working expenses once the original £4000 is obtained. Your generous action has gone far towards the raising of the £4000, and your example will lead to assistance from public-spirited "citizens, which will enable us to attain our object. "In conclusion, we again thank you for this further example of the practical interest the 'Evening Post' takes in activities helpful to the Capital City. —Yours truly, T. C. A. Hislop, chairman." .
