This morning a weak anti-cyclone was situated in southern New Zealand while another was located in the northern Tasrnan Sea. It was still raining at a lew places, more especially on the -bast Coast, but conditions generally were not so unfavourable as they were during yesterday. During the past twenty-four hours there was rain in most districts, chiefly light or moderate, but some places in the North Island had heavy falls. A further 50 points were registered in Wellington, making a total of 359 points for the past five days. This amount is already in excess of the average for the whole month. Winds have become southerly over most of the Dominion, moderate to fresh generally, but strong at times, more especially in part of the Cook Strait area. The forecast is for moderate" to strong southerly winds from Cook Strait northwards, decreasing and later backing to northerlies'; elsewhere variable and later northerly winds. The weather is likely to bo cloudy at first in eastern districts, with some clearing showers, but soon becoming fino generally.
