IDEA ALREADY HERE

'TOG H" CAMPS FOR BOYS

"Will, the idea spread to New. Zea.land?" was a question aaked by the writer of an article in yesterday's issue giving an account of the holding, of special camps in Australia, and England with the object of bringing public school boys and boys working in industrial concerns together. The answer was supplied this morninng by Mr. A. B. Malyon camp commandant for "Toe H" camps in New Zealand, who stated that, so far from the idea having yet to spread in New Zealand, it had taken root in the Dominion two and a half years ago, when Wellington. "Toe H" inaugurated the holding of such camps annually. The first camp organised purely as an experiment, was held at Foxton two and a half years ago, being attended by four iboys from Scots College and five boys from an orphanage. "Toe H" since then had held two camps at Oyster Bay, off Tory Channel, the first being attended by 28 boys and the second (last Christmas) by 33 boys. "Toe H" had now been allotted a permanent site at Oyster Bay for the holding of these camps, and proposed to erect permanent facilities as funds permitted. Dr. F. Kemp was medical officer in charge of the camps. Afterwards .special "fol-low-up work" was done in helping the boys who had attended the ; camps. Similar work had been decided oh by Auckland "Toe _H" and other centres contemplated acting likewise. Thus in this worß; New Zealand had riot 'to follow Australia, but had been ahead of it for'some time.,
