A WOMAN DECORATOR

Canada's foremost woman decorator, Mrs. Minerva Elliot, of Toronto, has just returned to London from a visit to Paris, where she has been acquiring the late Empress. Eugenie's valuable collection of objets dart.

"l"am taking them with me to Canada," she said, "to induce Canadians to adopt the English style of furnishing, and to share England's love of antiques and beautiful fabrics."

While in London Mrs. Elliot is spending some time at Hampton Court, getting copies of the lovely materials used for curtains and hangings there. Among the beautiful things which she will carry away with her are tapestries and curtains of exquisite beauty and workmanship, which-were woven specially for tho late Empress Eugenic, pictures, many by Winterhalter, busts of the Imperial family, and priceless books and furniture. There is an illuminated book of hours, bound in crimson velvet, and covered in chased gold strapwork, which will beautify some home in the Fat West. Priceless jewels sparkle from its bindings, and on the cover aro the ciphers of Napoleon 111. and his tragic Empress. A Louis XVI. ring which Mrs. Elliot is taking with her has a huge ruby in the centre. The Empress always wore this ring with long ruby earrings to match. The box which contains these treasures is itself precious, being inlaid with miniatures by Tahan, tho Court jeweller of that period.' ;
